Custom Wax Bite Blocks

Your Custom Wax Bite Blocks - How To Use Them

THE UPPER:

  1. Remove your custom bite block from the stone model of your upper gum ridge (palate).
  2. Put it in your mouth the same way you would put in an upper denture.
  3. Bite down until your lower gums touch the block.
    1. Did your mouth close completely, or did some part of the wax block stop it from closing?
    2. Remove the block from your mouth.
    3. Use a knife from your kitchen (or any sharp knife heated in hot water) to remove any wax that's in the way of your mouth closing.

THE LOWER:

  1. Remove your custom bite block from the stone model of your lower gum ridge.
  2. Put it in your mouth the same way you would put in a lower denture.
  3. Bite down until your upper gums touch the block.
    1. Did your mouth close completely, or did some part of the wax block stop it from closing?
    2. Remove the block from your mouth.
    3. Use a knife from your kitchen (or any sharp knife heated in hot water) to remove any wax that's in the way of your mouth closing.

WORKING TOGETHER:

  1. After you've removed any wax that causes your mouth to stop closing from the blocks, put the upper, then the lower back into your mouth.
  2. Check to make sure your mouth closes comfortably and your lips come together naturally with the blocks in your mouth.
  3. Check in the mirror. How does the bite look?
    1. Open or closed bite with wiggle room in upper block or space between palate and roof of mouth: Use one packet from the included RelineIt kit to reline the upper palate so the fit is correct and the lower and upper blocks come together when you bite down.
    2. Open or closed bite with wiggle room in lower block or lopsided seating in lower denture model (rocking):  Use one packet from the included RelineIt kit to reline the lower block so the fit is correct and the lower and upper blocks come together when you bite down.

EXTRA WAX:

Think of the wax blocks in the terms that the edges of them will be the edges of your new teeth. An extra sheet (or more) of modeling wax is included for you to make edits to your wax blocks. You can do anything you want with these including building up the height of the wax blocks if you want more lower teeth to show (or upper), or if there is space between your bite but the palate and lower both fit correctly. You can use it to build up lip support if you like, or to make any other edits you see fit. Just warm the wax up in some hot water from the tap, rip off a little bit, and get to modeling!

REMOVING WAX:

You may find that your bottom block sticks out a little on one side but the other side lines up correctly with the upper, or any similar situation. You may feel that the blocks are too far forward in your mouth, to where the teeth will give you "Monkey Face" when they are set. You can take a knife from your kitchen, or any sharp knife you like, heat it in hot water from the tap, and slice/shave off wax from the model until it lines up to your liking.

Don't worry about your carving or modeling skills. If you get the basic shape you want from your wax bite blocks, Jamie will clean it up when he sets the teeth into it.

ALL DONE:
